CHILDHOOD DEVLEOPMENT CENTRES GET UPGRADED

Bokamoso Solar, situated close to Leeudoringstad, has kicked off its programme to improve infrastructure at fifteen local Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres, in its beneficiary communities.

“Our programme works towards addressing the challenges faced by the local ECD centres, to improve the standard, teaching and learning environment of these facilities, so that children have a safer, and much improved space that is more conducive to learning,” explained Tshepo Kgoloane, Community Operations Manager for Bokamoso Solar, who has funded this extensive programme.

This programme commenced following an assessment, which ascertained the condition of ECD centres located within a 50km radius of the solar project. It uses local service providers and includes repairs, and/or maintenance of five ECD facilities in the Matlosana Local Municipality Kanana Community; and ten in the Maquassi Hill Local Municipality, Kgakala Community.

The programme addresses the needs of basic learning material and other elements relating to childhood development.

“We are not just addressing the poor conditions of these centres, but will also provide education toys and materials, as well as outside play equipment, all of which are essential for the holistic development of young children,” added Kgoloane.

This programme funding forms part of Bokamoso Solar’s Socio-Economic Development programme which benefits a large number of communities, spread within a 50km radius of the project’s site. The programme includes a focus on education, youth development, health, food security, local enterprise development and welfare.

“ECD for children between the ages of 0 and 6 years is critical in determining the success of the child’s academic foundations. It is with this belief that we have prioritised centres that require educational resources and play equipment, both of which are vital for development,” concluded Kgoloane.
