Two SMME Incubation Hubs have been launched in the local communities of Kanana and Leeudoringstad, in the North West Province, as of June 2022. These centres are set to directly benefit 16 existing and many emerging local companies helping them to grow and develop into sustainable, compliant and profitable entities.
Funded by Bokamoso Solar under the guidance of Africa’s Got Games, the aim is to assist and support community members with business registrations, compliance checks, as well as research, with an eye on building resilient and capacitated SMMEs.
“The establishment of these hubs allows local entrepreneurs to participate in community growth, development, and ownership. In turn, we believe they will develop a greater sense of self-worth and strengthen their communities’ economic transformation,” explained Claire Phutieagae, Community Operations Project Officer for Bokamoso Solar.
Additionally, the Hubs offer SMME Incubation Programmes and Youth Development Programmes that cover a variety of business-related topics such as marketing and compliance, among others, to give businesses a competitive edge.
“Our programmes have been designed to elevate and accelerate youth entrepreneurship and provide them access to the tools and resources necessary to build businesses that impact their communities,” added Phutieagae.
Stephen Matsepa, owner of ‘Matebe Holdings and Project’, is one of the small business owners benefiting from the SMME Incubation Programme offered by the Hub. He had this to say, “With the help of the hub, I am able to keep track of the finances of my company, work with mentors, and connect with clients using the Hub’s Wi-Fi. In five years, I hope to have my own rooftop solar power project.”
