Bokamoso Solar, situated near Leeudoringstad, has demonstrated its support of raising awareness of Gender Based Violence, in the community of Kanana.

The solar project recently allocated funding towards a campaign that was hosted by the Kanana Helping Hands Centre, to draw attention and educate community members around the plight of Women and Children abuse.

“This campaign is important because it teaches the community about Gender based Violence and that people need to be aware of their fellow community member’s predicament and suffering from abuse, with the hope to increase reporting. This campaign was part of the government’s Gender Based Violence activism campaign,” explained Keneilwe Sylvia Tlhapi, Deputy Chairperson of the Kanana Helping Hands Centre.

The campaign was hosted at Kanana Ward 22 Community Hall and was widely attended by members of the Kanana community, the Department of Welfare, the Kanana Youth Organisation and personnel from the local Ward Council.
“The South African government has addressed the need to curb Gender Based Violence, which he refers to as a scourge that affects millions in our country, calling on South Africans to unite” commented Tshepo Kgoloane, Community Operations Manager for Bokamoso Solar.

During its 20-year operations the project will benefit a number of communities, spread within a 50km radius of Bokamoso Solar, through various Economic Development programmes. The project’s Socio-Economic Development programme will be focused on education, youth development, health, food security and welfare. The initiatives have been chosen following research and engagement to ensure that are well informed and will strengthen the beneficiary communities. Additionally, Enterprise Development initiatives will aim to build resilience and accelerate the growth and success of entrepreneurial businesses, to create opportunities for the economic participation of previously disadvantaged groups.
