SCHOLARSHIPS OPEN UP OPPORTUNITIES FOR LOCAL LEARNERS

November 2020.

Bokamoso Solar, situated near Leeudoringstad, has launched its scholarship programme, aimed at providing opportunities to Matriculants that wish to study in tertiary institutions next year. Unlike most other programmes, this Scholarship Fund exclusively targets learners within specific beneficiary towns which means that they don’t need to contend against learners from other communities, making it a fantastic opportunity to fulfil a dream of studying after school.

The 2021 academic scholarships now are open to Grade 12 learners, additionally applicants who passed Matric in previous years and are planning to study at a recognized tertiary institution will also be considered. Applicants must live within the 50Km radius of Bokamoso Solar, within the Maquassi Hills and Matlosana Local Municipality communities, and apply before 15 December 2020, to take up this opportunity.

Due to COVID-19, 2021 scholarship applications will be submitted online, through the Bokamoso Solar website: http://bokamososolar.co.za/scholarships/

The criteria stipulates that the applicants must have outstanding academic achievements; be financially constrained to study at a tertiary institution; be registered for full-time studies towards an academic degree or diploma at an accredited institution amongst other standard conditions.

“Although the programme is open for all academic fields, preference will be given to applicants whose intended field of study are in education or teaching, engineering, sciences, environmental studies and nursing,” explained Tshepo Kgoloane, Community Operations Manager for Bokamoso Solar.

The solar project began its officially operations in September this year, and is generating power into the country’s national grid, enough to satisfy the needs of around 30 000 average South African households. The project’s development programmes are focused on education, enterprise development, youth development, health, food security and welfare and have been chosen following research and engagement to ensure that they strengthen the beneficiary communities.
