February 2021.
A 26-day intensive academic Grade 12 camp was hosted in December for around 1 500 learners at Kanana Secondary and Maitemogelo Comprehensive Secondary schools, to help counter the massive impact that the COVID-19 pandemic inflicted on the 2020 matric class.
“The 2020 matric class had to deal with unprecedented levels of stress and anxiety caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which is why an academic camp was held to help learners prepare for their most important examination of their school career,” explained Tshepo Kgoloane, Community Operations Manager for Bokamoso Solar, the camp benefactor.
The solar project stepped in to help with funding, in response to a request by the Department of Education for Matlosana and Maquassi Hill, with the aim of supporting community learners and giving them the opportunity to catch up the many months of lost learning.
The Matric results are expected to be released later this month, when learners from schools in the communities of Kgakala and Kanana, will hopefully confirm that the extra preparation and hard work paid off.
This programme funding forms part of Bokamoso Solar’s Socio-Economic Development, which benefits a large number of communities, spread within a 50km radius project’s site. The programme includes a focus on education, youth development, health, food security and welfare.
