SCHOLARSHIP UNLOCKS POTENTIAL

April 2026.

Oratile Eddie, a second-year Bachelor of Education student at North West University’s Mafikeng Campus, is turning her passion for teaching into a lifelong mission, thanks to the support of a local scholarship programme.

Originally from Lebaleng Location in Makwassie, Oratile has always viewed teaching as more than just a career. Inspired by her Grade 12 teacher, who believed in her, she is now determined to become that same source of inspiration for others.

“I’ve always been passionate about sharing knowledge and making a difference in people’s lives. Seeing the impact a good teacher can have on a student is what inspired me to pursue this path,” she said.

Before receiving the scholarship, Oratile and her family faced financial challenges that prevented her from fully focusing on her studies.

“This scholarship has brought peace to my family and me. Now I can focus on my studies without stress and work towards becoming the best teacher I can be,” said Oratile.

Established in 2020, the Bokamoso Solar Scholarship Programme provides comprehensive support to students from the Matlosana and Maquassi Hills Local Municipalities. The programme goes beyond tuition, covering accommodation, study materials, meals, transport, and living allowances, while also offering mentorship and psycho-social support to help students succeed both academically and personally.

Oratile is one of three newly awarded recipients of the scholarship, each with a clear vision for their future. Among them is Bonolo Tshatshu, an aspiring engineer from Leeudoringstad studying towards a BEng Tech in Physical Metallurgy at the University of Johannesburg. Also supported by the programme is Rebaone Tshepang Makaudi, a Chemical Engineering student at the University of the Witwatersrand.

With three new students funded this year and four currently part of the programme, the scholarship continues to open doors for young people who may not otherwise have access to higher education.

“By investing in students like Eddie, Tshatshu, and Makaudi, our scholarship programme is doing more than funding degrees, it is nurturing future educators, engineers, and community leaders committed to making a meaningful difference,” said Qinisani Siveshe, Social Performance Manager for Bokamoso Solar.
