KGAKALA COMMUNITY UNITES TO SUPPORT YOUTH

The Kgakala community came together at a youth-focused event dedicated to uplifting young people and raising awareness about bullying. The day highlighted how collaboration between local organisations, government departments, and the private sector can create real and lasting impact for young people.

Hosted at the North West School of the Deaf, the event was made possible through funding from Bokamoso Solar, in partnership with the Departments of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation; Social Development; Education; Economic Development, Environment Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT); Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA); Maquassi Hills Libraries; the Leeudoringstad Community Policing Forum; and LoveLife.

“This event aimed to create lasting impact by fostering stronger community bonds. By working side by side with the government departments and local organisations, we demonstrated a shared commitment to the well-being and dignity of Kgakala’s youth. This initiative is proof that when people unite with purpose, we can build safer, healthier, and more hopeful futures for our children,” said Qinisani Siveshe, Social Performance Manager for Bokamoso Solar.

The day began with a fun walk, during which participants also brought along much-needed toiletries to donate to those in need. Bokamoso Solar handed over 100 dignity packs, while the Department of Social Development supplied sanitary towels for 60 learners across three local primary schools, enough to last three months.

The day concluded with a spirited Sports Against Crime tournament, where learners from three schools competed in friendly matches. Thusang Primary School proudly claimed the netball trophy, while Thakadu Primary School won the soccer title. To encourage continued play, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles, each school received sports bottles, water carriers, and balls.

“The initiative was highly appreciated and much needed, as it addressed a gap that we as a school were previously unaware of. As a result, we have decided to incorporate the dignity packs into our budget to meet this identified need. We greatly appreciate the intervention, which has had a very significant impact on our children,” said Mr. H Motaung, Principal at Thusang-Primary School.
